The Story Behind

My name is Dr. Gerwaun Rushin, and From Purpose to Progress was created from a desire to teach and lead with intention. I am a lifelong educator with a doctorate in instructional leadership, a master’s degree in elementary education, and over fifteen years of experience as a classroom teacher and math coach. Throughout my work, I have believed that meaningful progress begins with purposeful, thoughtful practice.

Like many educators, I began creating resources out of necessity. I wanted materials that felt practical, reflective of real classrooms, and supportive of the everyday work teachers do. Resources that brought clarity to planning, strengthened instruction, and reduced the mental overload that often accompanies teaching. What started as tools for my own classroom gradually became resources others asked for because they were grounded, useful, and easy to implement.

My work is also shaped by family. I am the proud mother of an educator and author, and watching my daughter step into the profession has deepened my commitment to creating spaces that support teachers at every stage. Seeing teaching through both personal and generational perspectives has strengthened my understanding of how important it is for educators to feel prepared, valued, and supported.

From Purpose to Progress exists to support educators in meaningful ways. Every resource is created with care, informed by classroom experience, and designed to help teachers move forward with intention rather than overwhelm. This work extends beyond lessons or materials. It is about honoring the profession and supporting sustainable teaching practices built on reflection, consistency, and purpose.
